Frequently Asked Questions — Wholesale Leather Manufacturing
Below are answers to the questions we hear most often from brands, retailers, and buyers considering Mac Leather as their manufacturing partner. If your question is not covered here, get in touch — we respond within 24 hours.
Getting Started

How do I place my first order with Mac Leather?
Reach out to our team with your requirements: styles, quantities, materials, and any customisation details. We review your brief and provide a detailed quotation within 48 hours. For first-time buyers, we recommend starting with a sample order to evaluate quality, fit, and craftsmanship before committing to a bulk run. There is no minimum for sample orders — we produce single samples so you can assess everything before scaling up.
What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
Our minimum order quantity for bulk production is 50 pieces per style per colour. This is significantly lower than the 200 to 500 pieces most manufacturers require. You can mix product types within an order — for example, 50 bomber jackets and 50 biker jackets in the same production run. For sampling, there is no minimum — we produce individual prototypes for approval before any bulk commitment.
How do I request samples?
Contact us at info@macleatherco.com, via our contact page, by calling +92 332 2121 282, or via WhatsApp. Sample development typically takes 7 to 10 business days. We create your sample to the exact specifications you provide — leather type, colour, hardware, lining, and labelling. Sample costs are quoted separately and are credited against your first bulk order. Most clients approve within one to two sample rounds.
Do you work with startups and new brands?
Yes — startups and emerging brands make up a significant portion of our client base. Our 50-piece MOQ is specifically designed to be accessible to brands that are not yet ordering in the thousands. We provide hands-on guidance throughout the process, from material selection to finished product. If you have never worked with a manufacturer before, our team walks you through every step: tech pack preparation, material options, sizing, branding, and shipping logistics.
Materials and Products
What types of leather do you work with?
We work with a full range of genuine leathers. Sheepskin is our primary material — it is soft, lightweight, and the most popular choice for fashion jackets. We also work with cowhide (full-grain, top-grain, and corrected-grain), goatskin, lambskin (premium tier), and shearling (sheepskin with the wool intact). Suede and nubuck finishes are available across multiple hide types. We source from trusted tanneries in Karachi’s Korangi industrial cluster, where approximately 250 tanning units operate. All materials are REACH-compliant and AZO-free.
Do you work with vegan or synthetic leather?
We primarily work with genuine leather, which is our area of expertise. However, we can accommodate PU (polyurethane) leather for brands that require an animal-free option. PU leather jackets start from $15 to $35 FOB per unit depending on quality and complexity. Contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
Do you only manufacture jackets, or do you make other products?
While leather jackets are our core product, we manufacture a full range of leather goods: bags (totes, crossbodies, backpacks, duffels), belts, wallets, gloves, and accessories. Consolidating your production with a single manufacturer simplifies logistics and gives you better leverage on pricing. Every product benefits from the same craftsmanship and quality control processes.
Can I send my own designs for production?
Absolutely — this is how most of our orders work. Send us tech packs, sketches, reference photos, or a physical sample you want replicated or modified. Our pattern-making team translates your design into a production-ready garment. We handle all technical aspects: grading across sizes, seam construction, material engineering, hardware sourcing, and lining. We produce an approval sample first, and bulk production begins only after you sign off.
What jacket styles do you specialise in?
All major silhouettes: biker jackets, bomber jackets, racer jackets, blazers, trench coats, shearling and aviator jackets, hooded jackets, and vests. We produce both classic and contemporary designs for men and women. We are particularly known for complex, detailed work — quilted panels, asymmetric construction, multi-pocket designs, and intricate hardware placement. If another factory turned your design down for being too complicated, talk to us.
Production and Quality
How long does production take?
Sample development takes 7 to 10 business days. Bulk production typically runs 4 to 6 weeks depending on order size, design complexity, and material availability. We provide a confirmed production schedule with every order and send progress updates at each stage — material sourcing, cutting, stitching, finishing, and final quality inspection. If you are working to a specific launch date, let us know early so we can plan accordingly.
What does your quality control process look like?
We run a multi-stage QC process. Materials are inspected at the tannery before acceptance. During production, checks happen at three points: after cutting (panel quality, colour consistency), after stitching (seam strength, alignment, construction accuracy), and after finishing (hardware function, lining attachment, symmetry, sizing tolerance). Every finished jacket undergoes individual inspection before packing. We follow AQL 2.5 standards as default, or stricter protocols if your brand requires them.
What certifications do you hold?
Our manufacturing practices follow ISO quality management standards. All materials comply with REACH regulations (EU chemical safety) and use AZO-free dyes (no carcinogenic amines). We maintain ethical manufacturing standards: fair wages, safe working conditions, and zero tolerance for child labour. We welcome factory audits from clients and third-party inspectors (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek). Compliance documentation is provided with every order.
Is leather sustainable?
All genuine leather Mac Leather uses is a byproduct of the meat industry. No animals are raised or slaughtered solely for their hides. The hides we source would otherwise be discarded as waste from the food supply chain — by converting them into durable, long-lasting garments and accessories, leather manufacturing reduces landfill burden and makes full use of an existing resource. Combined with our tannery partners’ participation in effluent treatment programmes and our use of REACH-compliant, AZO-free dyes, we are committed to responsible production at every stage.
Can I arrange third-party quality inspections?
Yes. We support third-party inspections at any stage: pre-production, during production, or pre-shipment. Use any internationally recognised inspection agency of your choice. We also conduct our own internal checks on every order, but we understand that independent verification matters — especially for first orders.
What happens if there is a quality issue with my order?
Contact us immediately at info@macleatherco.com with photographs and a description of the issue. We investigate promptly and offer an appropriate resolution: replacement of affected pieces, rework, or a credit towards your next order. Quality issues are rare given our multi-stage inspection process, but when they occur, we resolve them quickly and transparently. Our goal is a long-term partnership, and we take every concern seriously.
Shipping and Payment
Do you ship internationally?
Yes — we ship worldwide. Air freight via DHL, FedEx, or UPS is ideal for samples and smaller shipments (3 to 7 business days). Sea freight under FOB Karachi or CIF terms handles larger bulk orders (18 to 25 days to European ports, 25 to 35 days to North America). Our logistics team recommends the most cost-effective method based on your order size and delivery timeline.
What are your payment terms?
Standard terms: 50% deposit on order confirmation and 50% balance before shipment. For established clients with a track record of repeat orders, we offer flexible terms including 30-day credit on approved accounts. Payment via T/T (bank transfer), Letter of Credit (L/C), or PayPal (for sample orders). Full payment details are provided with every proforma invoice.
Are there customs duty advantages when importing from Pakistan?
Yes — this is one of the most compelling reasons to source from Pakistan. Under GSP+ (Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus), leather goods manufactured in Pakistan enter the European Union at 0% customs duty. Post-Brexit, the UK’s DCTS (Developing Countries Trading Scheme) provides the same 0% rate for Pakistani leather goods entering the UK. Compare this to the 4% MFN duty applied to imports from China or India. For a brand importing 500 jackets at $75 CIF, the GSP+ saving is approximately $1,500 per shipment — money that goes straight to your margin. We handle all required documentation including certificates of origin and GSP+ Form A.
Private Label and Branding
Do you offer private label and OEM services?
Yes. The majority of our production is private label — we manufacture under your brand name and your customers never know the jackets came from our facility. Full private label services include: custom woven or printed main labels, care and composition labels, hangtags, branded zippers and hardware (subject to minimum quantities), embossed or debossed leather patches, dust bags, poly bags, custom hangers, and branded cartons. We also develop tech packs from scratch if you have a concept but no production-ready specification.
Can you help with design development?
Yes. Our product development team works with brands at every stage of readiness. If you have a full tech pack with measurements and construction details, we work directly from that. If you have a mood board, reference images, or a competitor sample you want to improve on, our pattern makers develop the technical specification for you. We also maintain a library of base patterns for popular silhouettes (bombers, bikers, blazers, trenches), which you can customise to save sampling time and cost.
